About Greenhow Hill - Landed Gentry
This database deals only with the families of the major landowners who owned the lands and mineral  rights on Greenhow Hill, namely the White & Yorke families.

The White family came from Wallingwells, Nottinghamshire and their home near Greenhow was Eagle  Hall near Pateley Bridge.

The Yorke family are descended from Richard who was elected Lord Mayor of York in 1469 and  knighted in 1487. Their residences were at Bewerley Hall, Pateley Bridge (now demolished) and  Halton Place near Hellifield which remains to this day to be their main location.
